Hello! I’m glad to be here on the behalf of
At first I had no idea how to comment under your entry, but now I have decided I will concentrate on what I was in the video.
First of all: good angle. This might sound off topic, but it takes skills to choose the right angle from which record a speed painting.
Now, moving to the actual piece: I would have liked to see the painting process of the face. It very well structured in terms of anatomy. I suppose I wanted to depict someone very young (I can presume it from the eye size and the round shape). The eyes are my favourite part of the result, because I think they are shaded very well. On the overall I love how you chose to deviate from normal skin tone and go for a radical change like blue. This looks easy, but painting skin is one of the most difficult things to do. The fact that you succeeded in matching that hue of blue with the right hue of purple and lilac is not to be overlooked. I would have liked to see some light blue, to break up a little bit the purple-blue pattern and to maybe contrast the pink of the hair.
What I personally don’t like is the management of light areas, too many and too highlighted in my very humble opinion. You technique of layering thin veil of colour, removing part of it with the cloth/handkerchief could have permitted you something more subtle. The same goes for the hair, the front part has a magnificent flow but is kind of burdened by all that white.
I like your piece, and seeing how you did it has really helped me to see how you intended it to be. I hope to see some more from you on ProjectComment Have a nice and bright day!
